late season pow at asahidake

late season powder turn at Asahidake

It was an early day. waking up with a couple cms fresh on the car, honestly a suprise, even tho I knew it would snow. It was all gravel and grass yesterday, and then this morning, a world of white again. Nice to remember what winter feels like, if just for a moment.

We left the house at 5 am, and rallied to Brad's in Furano. We caught coffee n oatmeal there, then cruised up to Asahidake, and made it there in time to be in line for first tram. There was definitely a bit of a buzz in the morning. Locals only, everyone stoking.

When we got to the tram dock and loaded, the sun popped and it was bluebird, with the snow glinting in the sun.

We got off at the top, and hustled to the top of the cat track, clicked in, and then shredded down. It wasn't like blower blower, but it was 20 cms of creamy consistent pow, that was jus super flowy.

We got the tram perfectly and walked on, no line.

Up again, and the same again

then again, but this time a different line. Untracked, but this time we ended up on the wrong side of a stream, and we had to jump across.

we took a bit of a break after that, snacked a bit.

we made a new friend, Koichi-san, who is a friend of Brad's. we shredded with him all day, he is a pow guide, and does fishing guiding. super good guy, hyped to do some stuff with him in the future.

we went up for another lap, we hiked for 20 minutes, and got another fresh line, one of my favs at asahidake. Top to bottom blower this time. It was steep and good. We got to the bottom, all of us with smiles, and we called it a season. No better way to end.

back home now, still a smile on my face. sick way to end the year. sick year. I feel at peace hanging up the gear, until next season.

have a great day n wakaranai.
