sink frames fer da win

sink frame planning at Wakaranai Lodge

It was a bit of a fooling day here at Wakaranai Lodge.

It was grind day, time to get the sink frame built. And like all good projects, some things move quickly and other things slowly.

First thing first, we had to cut back more drywall around where our sink will be. We wanted to make sure, since the counter will be pretty heavy, that we didn't have any drywall behind it, that would wear and compress over time. I also wanted to throw in some extra supports, since, lets just say, the framing in older Japanese houses is kinda sus. like yeah the walls are strong, but we have all sort of horizantle 1x2s running in the walls that the drywall is attached to, and we have studs like a bit more spaced than I am used to in western builds. So yeah I threw some blocking in, just to make sure I had lots of meat to send screws into when I got to actually hanging up the frame.

But we crushed that out, and Denise started hammering on patching all the drywall we had messed up when we were initally pulling the wall paper and trim off.

We then took a ski break, and realized that yesterday was the final day for the upper lift, so we sent a gondy lap, and skied through boot deep puddles at the bottom, chilled with our friend Go san's two little husky pups for a minute, then headed home and got to grinding again.

We have the whole frame roughed out, now its just reinforcing it more tomorrow, and getting the plywood skin on, to then get the cement board on, to then mortar it.

A pretty solid send today, and stoked for another one tomorrow.

have a great day n wakaranai
